The Honourable Minister for Environment, Mrs. Amina J. Mohammed has agreed to deliver a key note address at the First Akwa Ibom State Climate Change and Clean Energy Technology Mega Summit/Expo holding in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital.

The Minister stated this during her assessments visit to some of ravaging gully erosion sites in the State, accompanied by the Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr. Iniobong Ene Essien.

The summit with the theme: charting a road-map for sustainable environment and creation of green jobs will hold from July 26th to July 28th 2016; with a Special Golf Tournament for Climate Change awareness (“PLAY GOLF FOR CLIMATE CHANGE”) on the 29-30th of July at the Le’ Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

It will anchor an all stakeholders’ brainstorming and solution seeking sessions that would benefit the human and natural environment in Nigeria and beyond; a gathering of experts, intellectuals and major stakeholders in the environment/climate change, in strategic and high-level sessions to address salient issues, generate new ideas and approaches as well as chart a roadmap to combat the scourge of climate change in Nigeria in particular the Niger Delta region as a Sub-National Post COP 21 Implementation Agenda.

Highlight of the summit will include an International Summit & Exhibition; a Climate Walk; Legacy Tree Planting Program; a Green Talk Shop; a State Dinner; creating the first CLEAN ENERGY TECHNOLOGY HUB/ EXPORT PROCESSING in West African Sub-region, and the FIRST EVER Special Environmental Governance Award for deserving institutions and individuals.

The Four-day programme is jointly organized by the Government of Akwa Ibom State through the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources in collaboration with United Nations accredited NGO, Water Safety Initiative Foundation, African Clean Energy Summit and The Environment Communication LTD.
